Little Senegal

Last month, residents of Harlem’s “Little Senegal” celebrated the 23rd Annual Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacke Cultural Week.

Read more on the festival here. Located along 116th Street, Little Senegal is a little spot of Africa in the middle of Harlem. The community formed in the early 1980′s and has nearly 10,000 residents today. The Morningside Post describes the area in more detail, while this article from Humanity in Action details some of the specific issues Senegalese immigrants face.
